How to Make Tissue Pom Pom Balls

Tissue Pom balls are the latest trend in decorating! They can transform a room and look great hanging from the ceiling or just sitting on a table as decoration. The possibilities are endless. Our Deluxe and Extreme Party packages come with pre-madeTissue Pom Balls. All you have to do is fluff!

*They don’t last forever! I always try to make mine the same day as the party….this way they don’t have time to get deformed!

MATERIALS
·    Tissue Paper (10-13 sheets) – You can use any size tissue paper you would like. The standard tissue paper that comes in packages for gift sacks works perfect! I have found that some of the thick (more paper like) tissues do not work very well on this project. You can get packaged tissue paper at any party store, Wal-Mart, Target, Michaels, Hobby Lobby or any other craft supplier’s store.
·    String- I use clear stretch beading wire. I have tried many different types of string and I have found that this kind works best! Cut the string to the desired length for hanging; leave enough extra for tying around the tissue paper. Longer is always better (you can cut the extra off later)!
·    Scissors – Make sure they are sharp!
·    Tack – For hanging from the ceiling

STEP 1
Fold out your tissue paper until it is all the way flat. I have found that 11-12 sheets works best!

STEP 2
Fold your sheets back and forth accordion style (like you are making a paper fan). Fold in about 1 – 1.5 inch increments.

STEP 2b
Do this until the entire paper is folded up.

STEP 3
Keeping everything folded…..take both ends and fold them together (fold the entire thing in half). Take your string of choice and put it through the middle. Tie several knots!

STEP 4
Let it open up and make sure you tied the string in the middle.

STEP 5
After you have made sure everything looks good you will now fold it back together like a paper fan and cut the ends to your desired shape. You can cut a half circle which will make your ends look scalloped, or you can cut the ends to a point. I personally like the scallop better so that is what I chose. Both ways look great! This cutting part is a little tricky, because of the thickness of the layers (sharp scissorsJ)

STEP 5b
Touch up any spots that don’t look even with the scissors. The more even the better!!

STEP 6
Hear comes the fun part!! The Fluffing or blooming of your Pom. This part may seem a little tricky at first. But after you have done 1 or 2 you start to get the hang of it. Lay out your tissue paper like in STEP 4. Now you will lift each sheet of paper up one by one. I lift 6 on each side and then flip it over and hold it in the middle by pinching where I tied the string. Then continue to fluff the other side. If you accidently rip a piece it is not that big of a deal. Once you get your ball all fluffed you won’t notice. After you get all of your pieces pulled apart; go back and fluff pieces out where you see they need to be. If you see empty spaces pull pieces together in those spaces. One side won’t come all the way together….this is what I call the top. I maneuver my string so it will hang up out of the ‘top’. This way you can not see the small whole (facing the ceiling).

Now your ball is complete. Make as many as you would like and hang them everywhere!!
Tacks work great for hanging! Like I said before….after the first couple you start to get the hang of it!!
